The WS-X6724-SFP is a fabric only module and it will only work with a Supervisor 720. The Supervisor 32 does not provide a connection to the fabric.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to get this to work other than to change the supervisor to a 720 or trade the module in for a non fabric only module ie.

any WS-X67... module will only work with the Supervisor 720.

Jon

Jon i get what your saying however is this not conflicting to what ciscos site says? Or am i missing something.

• Operational consistency: Configurations available for Catalyst 6500 3-, 6-, 9-, and 13-slot chassis running Cisco IOS® Software and Cisco Catalyst Operating System Software; interoperable with all other interfaces and services modules; and forward-compatible with all Catalyst 6500 supervisor engines

Mike

Hmm, not entirely sure i get exactly what that means.

Scroll down in that doc past table 1 to the next table and you'll see that the WS-X6724-SFP and WS-X6748-SFP are only supported with the Supervisor 720.

Jon

I think it's a way of saying you can mix and match chassis and components, what's not stated, not all combinations are valid.

As Jon correctly notes, the 67xx series are CEF720 fabric only cards. Your 6724-SFP would work in any chassis slot with a sup720, but if it were a 6748-SFP or 6748-GE-TX, it would only work in slots 9..13 of a 6513.

Your sup32 will only support cards that will work with classic bus. Besides this exluding the 67xx cards, the WS-X6816-GBIC also is fabric only.

BTW, from your original post:

"1 WS-SUP32-GE-3B 154.98 3.69 154.98 3.69 on on

2 WS-X6724-SFP 154.98 3.69 154.98 3.69 on off (Fabric required)

3 WS-X6148-GE-TX 103.74 2.47 103.74 2.47 "

Ok i get it. Thanks alot. Looks like ill be going to the fabric store :)

Or you might consider using the WS-X6516A-GBIC or WS-X6416-GBIC.

Oh, guess I should add, if you find a WS-C6500-SFM or WS-C6500-SFM2 card at the "fabric store", it will not work with either a 6724-SFP or your sup32. Simple, eh? (laugh)
