I just bought an ATA 186 to connect my fax machine to the network. The manual says that the ATA is suppose to register like a phone to the CME, but when I plug that ATA to the network, CME doesn't see it and it's getting an IP address like a regular network device not a IP Phone. Has this happen to anyone or anyone have experience will the ATA 186?

Is this CME a UC500? If not, then you need to make sure that your configuration is correct:

might be a little bit late :-) but this did the trick for me:
using the MAC adress as SID0:
For SID01:
1. Drop the first 2 nibbles of the MAC address and shift the MAC address to the left.
2. Add 01 to the right end of the MAC address. For example, 00070EA26032 is port 1 and 070EA2603201 is port 2.
3. Use this new MAC address and register this as a device to the Cisco CallManager.
