Unity Connection 7 HA install

I'm attempting to get a UC 7 High availability install in place.

I'm noticing that there seems to be NO documentation around how to do this specifically. Since the architecture of UC is so similar to Unity, I'm attempting to do it the same way...i.e. separate trunk group from the CCM cluster to the secondary UC7 server.

It's failing telling me that it would violate the license. I'm not sure if I have a bad license file, or if I'm doing something wrong.

Has anyone else gotten this working? In looking in the license file, I don't see the options I would expect to see for HA if it were a regular Unity installation.

All help appreciated.

Hi Clifford,

I would start with the Training video from the great Unity Tools (see below)There will only be one Group of ports distributed across the two UC7 boxes;

Task List for Installing a Cisco Unity Connection 7.x System with a Connection Cluster Configured

Configuring a Subsequent Node

This is excellent (a must see :) - from Ramesh @ Cisco

Hope this helps!

Rob,

Thanks for the response. I went through all your links and found absolutely NOTHING about configuring High Availability. I also found nothing that says to use a single port group (and I don't see how that could possibly work since the port group name has to match what is configured on the CCM cluster, and it will be two separate line groups/Hunt lists over there.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but could you please provide a link to the specific information on configuring the integration for HA for UC7? I'm not seeing it in what you provided, and what you're saying doesn't line up with the way HA has worked in prior versions in the Unity family.

Hi Clifford,

Well, I'm not sure what to tell you here, but we've been running an Active-Active UC 7.x Cluster for quite some time now and these doc are primarily what we used for our references. You need to remember that UC 7 references either a single server build or a "Cluster" build for HA. The docs don't specifically talk about HA but rather a Cluster config.

There is not two seperate Line group/hunt lists the reference to which UC box the ports are registered is within this config shown below (note step 3);

Configuring the Voice Messaging Ports for the Connection Cluster

Do the following procedure.

To Configure the Voice Messaging Ports for a Cisco Unity Connection Cluster

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 In Cisco Unity Connection Administration, expand Telephony Integrations, then click Port.

Step 2 On the Search Ports page, click the display name of the first voice messaging port in the Cisco Unity Connection cluster.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Caution All ports for all Cisco Unity Connection servers must appear on the Search Ports page. Otherwise, the Cisco Unity Connection cluster has not been correctly configured and will not function correctly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3 On the Port Basics page, in the Server field, click the name of the applicable Cisco Unity Connection server depending on the port function. For details, see the "Voice Messaging Port Configuration for a Connection Cluster" section.

Step 4 Click Save.

Step 5 Click Next.

Step 6 Repeat Step 3 through Step 5 for all remaining voice messaging ports in the Cisco Unity Connection cluster.

Hope this helps!

Hmmm....I see what you're talking about. I didn't realize this thing operated as active/active in this manner, so what you're describing does make sense in that scenario.

Thanks for the point in the correct direction.

Hi Clifford,

You are most welcome my friend! Did you have a look at the presentation from Ramesh. It's got a good Overview :)

Cheers!

Rob

Hi Rob and Clifford -

I didn't see it specifically referenced in your posts, so I am including an additional guide I found valuable, from the Unity Connection Design Guide - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/design/guide/7xcucdg060.html

This chapter likewise refers to the port configuration Rob recommended in his posts - 5 points for all the great links as always :-)
