Hello

My Catalyst 6509 starts with the following output

System Bootstrap, Version 7.1(1)

c6k_sup2 processor with 262144 Kbytes of main memory

Autoboot: failed, BOOT string is empty

rommon 1 >

If I run the dir bootflash command, the following output appears:

rommon 2 > dir bootflash:

File size Checksum File name

In my opinion the IOS Image exists.

If I press the command boot, the router will start normal the IOS Image.

The show version output:

Router#sh ver

Hi

it seems the boot variable is missing.

After the switch boots enter the below commands

set boot system flash bootflash:imagename

and also check for u r config register.

Thanks

Mahmood

Hi

If I type set in the rmon mode, the following output will appear.

ommon 1 > set

PS1=rommon ! >

SYS_CONFIG_FILE=

SW_CONSIS=0

CONFIG_FILE=

BOOTLDR=

SLOTCACHE=cards;

RET_2_RUTC=1135814377

BOOT=

RET_2_RTS=04:35:56 UTC Wed Jun 17 2009

?=0

BSI=0

RET_2_RCALTS=

I can't set the bootvariable. Maybe I did it wrong.

So I typed:

rommon 3 > set boot system flash bootflash:c6sup22-ps-mz.121-26.E4.bin

usage: set

After I type the command boot in the rmon mode, I typed show bootvar and the following output is:

Router#sh bootvar

BOOT variable =

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable =

Configuration register is 0x2102

Thanks

Hi,

u have to do this after the switch is booted and its under normal operation.

Thanks

Mahmood

Yeah I did that:

rommon 3 > set boot system flash bootflash:c6sup22-ps-mz.121-26.E4.bin

usage: set

But the Switch tells that the usage is wrong.

Hi

First enter this from rommon

rommon>boot bootflash:c6sup22-ps-mz.121-26.E4.bin

after the switch gets normally booted.

switch>enable

switch#conf t

switch(config)#boot system flash bootflash:c6sup22-ps-mz.121-26.E4.bin

Thanks

Mahmood

Okay. I did that.

After the switch reloads with the following Messages:

System Bootstrap, Version 7.1(1)

Copyright (c) 1994-2001 by cisco Systems, Inc.

c6k_sup2 processor with 262144 Kbytes of main memory

Autoboot executing command: "boot bootflash:c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-19.E1.bin"

open(): Open Error = -9

loadprog: error - on file open

boot: cannot load "bootflash:c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-19.E1.bin"

Hi

I think this is hybrid chassis.

The image u r refering belongs to the MSFC.

i think the MSFC has gone in rommon mode.

From the normal switch prompt type switch console and enter the above commands

Thanks

Mahmood

Okay I will try this in one week. Because the switch runs and we need the switch for a lab. We've got no other.There is no time for experiments.

Thank you and I write again when I tried your answer.
