Hi all,

If two switch is configured as server mode with same vtp domain (ABC) but different Configuration Revision and going to be connected together.

Is it the largest configuration revision switch (Switch-2) will be the Active role so that it will copy all Vlan information to Switch-1

or

they will copy all Vlan each other

Switch-1# sh vtp status

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 200

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 254

Number of existing VLANs : 11

VTP Operating Mode : Server

VTP Domain Name : ABC

VTP Pruning Mode : Disabled

VTP V2 Mode : Disabled

Switch-2# sh vtp status

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 250

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 254

Number of existing VLANs : 100

Yes the server that has the highest revision will overwrite the other servers vlan database .

The switch with the highest configuration revision number will overwrite the vlan database of the lower switch.

... and that's exactly the reason why you have to be CAREFUL when working with VTP in server/client mode, as you will be able to shut your whole entwork down accidentially in the case where you put on a switch to the entwork with a higher revision number than your current VTP server and the new switch has only a few VLAN present.

For a VTP Server to over-write another, you have to have a higher revision number but also the same Domain Name and the the same Password. If the password is incorrect, the database will not be copied across.

Good point regarding the VTP password.

This one can be seen with the "show vtp password" command - it is not seen in the "show vtp status" output.
