You can use any WLC to manage LAP's, it just depends on how many LAP's. You can also convert the 1242's to LAP's so you can manage them also.

The WCS can monitor/manage autonomous and lightweight AP's as of 5.0 and later.

I have a WCS 6.0.132.0 that I just built and added a few of my autonomous AP's. From what I've seen, about all you can do with them is upgrade the IOS and convert them to lightweight. Doesn's seem to show the correct Tx power leverl (always 5) or the correct client count.
