Pros/Cons P2P VPN

Hi,

My org has 5 sites. The WAN is a star - One site connects to the center over fiber, another over Opt-E-Man, the last two over P2P T1s.

All 5 sites have their own internet connections. It's a community college district, our internet links are provided by a state-wide educational ISP.

The ISP is upgrading the internt connections to gigabit.

We're considering replacing the Opt-T-Man and the 2 T1s with P2P VPN over the gigabit links.

Any thoughts on the pros and/or cons of doing things this way?

I'm thinking pros are save money, establish a mesh without spending extra money, and get better speed between sites.

Can't really think of any cons, but I have a lot to learn, so I'm thinking this may be a case of I don't know enough to know what I don't know.

Anyway, any thoughts or suggestions would be most helpful.

Linnea

One con could be stability on the Internet, you should make sure that your SLA for the internet connection is the same or better than the T1/Metro connection. Also if your Internet is not a redundant link, you will introduce a single point of failure connectionwise.
