failover on cisco ASA

Hi all

Is it possible to have failover set up over a routed connection? or do they have ot be back to back?

Yes it is possible but connectivity loss would cause failover,

do many people do this kind of thing?

Would it just route to the secondary address ?

You can't have failover over a routed network unless the two failover interfaces still appeard L2 adjacent (same subnet).

If you are looking to place your firewalls in different physical locations this is possible but you may need to tweak your failover timers as latency across the cloud/WAN link could cause a failover event or put your firewalls into an active/active state.
