additional to what yjdabear said, ping tests are also done in DFM for reachability test of IP interfaces; you can disable this feature by unmanageing the IP interfaces under:
DFM > Device Management > Device Details
or use the bulk unmanage scripts provided in dfm. You can find more information in the online help:
