Simple question regarding OSPF metrics adjust

Hello all,

This might be a no brainer to those that have done this sort of thing before. I'd just link confirmation over the same.

If I change the ospf metric using the "ip ospf cost" command on an interface, does it stand to reason I must do the same on the other side of the link incase the interface is an ospf p2p.

Thanks ...

While it is generally a best practice to have the cost metric match on both ends of a connection it is not a requirement. If the OSPF costs are different on each end it might result in assymetric routing. Assymetric routing may be a problem or may not be depending on your environment. So I would advise you to go with the best practice and change it on both ends. (I think that you SHOULD change but not necessarily MUST change)
