RSPAN and 3500XL

Is it possible to use RSPAN across an intermediate 3500XL switch?

Say, for example, I have an RSPAN source on a 3560 which is connected to a 3508G XL, which in turn is connected to a 6500 that has an RSPAN destination configured. Will this work? Will the XL even understand the creation of an RSPAN VLAN via VTP? Will it just create a normal Vlan?

I found this buried in the Cisco Unified Contact Center SRND:

The following switches do NOT support RSPAN (although they may be an intermediate switch in an RSPAN configuration): .... 3500XL...

It would seem to me that if the 3500XL treated the RSPAN VLAN as a normal VLAN then it wouldn't work because it would not know where to forward the frames it receives. Or is there some special encapsulation done on RSPAN traffic?

RSPAN is not supported on the 2900XL/3500XL.
