upgrade from VTP version 2 to VTP version 3

I am going to change the configuration on the local area network to vtp version 3. Would I just use the vtp version 3 command on the server which is a 6509, and then visit each switch and change it to vtp version 3? Am I on the right path or is there a better way.

Basically what you have outlined is fine. VTP version 3 is backwards compatible with version 2 but not version 1. Have a quick read of this doc with provides more detail -
