May i know, what is mean by clustering in 2960. Yes, know it will not support for Stackable. But what does mean by clustering in 2960 switches?

A switch cluster is a set of up to 16 connected, cluster-capable Catalyst switches that are managed as a single entity. The switches in the cluster use the switch clustering technology so that you can configure and troubleshoot a group of different Catalyst desktop switch platforms through a single IP address.

Clustering allows you to manage several switches as one. It also allows the switches to share one management address.

Here are a couple of references to provide more information:

Thank you, then how clustering differs from Stacking in 3000 series switch?

When you cluster, you still uplink the switches via the physical front switchports and the throughput is limited to the physical bandwidth on the switchport.

On the stacking, the bandwidth is much greater. On 3750, the stacking speed is rated at 32Gbps while on 3750-E, is rated at 64Gbps.

Besides physical attributes, one that Edison mentions, and the need to use special stack ports and distance limitations for those ports, something like a 3750 stack is much more tightly logically coupled. For instance, a 3750 stack behaves much like a chassis, e.g. one "router", able to Etherchannel between member switches, etc.

Thank you Leo,

Do you about the requirement for 96 DS3's over 2 OC-48's. What cisco product do i need to use to accompolish this one?

Thanks for the ratings Sivaprakasam.

Hi Sivaprakasam,

Unfortunately, no.

That's a high scale deployment. To do things right, I recommend contacting your local Cisco sales office and they can come onsite and provide information on the equipment that you need. Hard to provide that kind of information in an online forum.
