Hi folks, just want to confirm I understanding this right:
In a modern network, where I am planning to replace access-layer switches with Cisco 3750's - or perhaps even non Cisco switches in certain locations - I could and should just forget CGMP, since that is proprietary.
So my approach is to explore IGMP snooping on access-layer switches. I understand I need to test how that will play with igmp3 since that is how my distribution layer 3 switches are configured.
Is my understanding right?
If you have a choice between CGMP and IGMP snooping then i would choose IGMP snooping. Apart from the issue you mention about CGMP being Cisco proprietary, IGMP snooping is more efficient on a switch as it is implemented in hardware.
So yes, use IGMP snooping over CGMP.
