Hi,

We have a problem with a 6506-E which is having a high CPU utilization.

Here's the output from the show proc cpu:

6506_A#sh proc cpu

CPU utilization for five seconds: 79%; one minute: 81%; five minutes: 78%

We searched this output in the Output Interpreter and it indicated that it could be an IOS bug. Its IOS is 12.2(18)SXF11.

Hope someone has an idea on this.

Thanks.

Hello Angelo,

there is a single process taking most of cpu resources:

16408 75.3% 75.6% 72.7% ios-base

you should use Bug toolkit tool.

I tried a search for C6500, 12.2 18 SXF11 release using high cpu as search keyword:

I've found the following:

CSCsr12976 Bug Details

High CPU in ION ios-base process

Symptom:

CPU climbs high over a period of time until switch crashes to recover. This is due to "show run" command being run on the switch periodically which hold memory regions and does not release them which in turn contributes to high cpu.

Workaround:

(1) Stop running the "show run" command to prevent the CPU climb.

(2) Reload the switch to recover memory and CPU.

you need to upgrade to something newer

Hope to help

Giuseppe
