Hi,
I have a group who have only just started using multicast, at the moment the group is sitting in a normal vlan without any multicast configuration on the vlan or router. Can someone please explain how the multicast is working for the group within their vlan, even though nothing has been configured on the network?
Thanks
Dan

If you have nothing configured for multicast then the switch simply treats multicast packets as broadcasts and sends them to every port within that vlan. So that's probably why it seems to be working altho it's not the most efficient way to do things.

Thanks very much for that Jon.
Could you please point me to a doc or link about this?
Thanks
