Hi,
I have 6509-E with VSS-SUP. The VSL is made on the 10 Gigs of the supervisor itself.
I want to use 6704 3B which I have with me as line cards only(not fr VSL).
The hardware requirment says only DFC 3C/DFC 3CXL only supports.
Can anybody have the experience of using 6704 DFC 3B with VSS.
Pls advise.
Thanks
Sachi

The Sup or if you are using a line card for VSL has to be 3C or 3CXL.
You should be able to use a 4 port 10gig 3B as line card only

Does anybody have experience of using 10 Gig linecard(6704) with DFC3B. As the VSS is in production we cannot take any chance by inserting 6704 in it for verifying. Client wont allow to do so.
Thanks

Hello Reza / Sachi,
in another thread about 6704 and VSS a Cisco Engineer has been explained that this linecard is not usable for the VSL link becauses it misses an ASIC that performs a proprietary encapsulation.
I've checked documentation and unfortunately it says clearly:
If a 67xx series switching module with a DFC3A/3B/3BXL is inserted in the chassis of a VSS, the module will remain unpowered, because VSS supports only DFC3C and DFC3CXL.
So a DFC upgrade is required to avoid client's disappointment
Hope to help

You can also use WS-x67xx with CFC's, they'll also work, if you have some CFC's in spare and you can live without distributed switching...
