I have a switch WS-C6509-E with supervisor 720 up and running. I inserted a new WS-X6748-SFP module on an empty slot (hot insertion) and after the online diagnostic I received the following error: "%PM_SCP-SP-3-TRANSCEIVER_DUPLICATE: Transceiver in LAN port 4/1 and in LAN port 5/2 have duplicate serial numbers"

After the error the interface gi5/2 change the status to: GigabitEthernet5/2 is down, line protocol is down (faulty)

We remove the SFP from port 4/1 and “shut/no shut” the interface Gi5/2 and the interface status didn't change.

Dou you have any idea?

Thanks

Judith

Judith-

I ran into this problem when we bought some GBIC's from a reseller (or so they said). Come to find out 12 of the 15 we bought had the same serial number. Basically they are gray market products and must be replaced. If you remove one of the offending SFP's and shut/no shut it should bring the interface up. If you have to SFP's with the same serial number, it will shut them both immediately. You can view the serial numbers with a show idprom [options].

Hope it helps.

Thanks Collin, for your advice.

Actually, I removed all SFPs from module 4, also I powered down the module and "shut/no shut" the interface gi5/2 in the supervisor card and the interface continue in the same status

GigabitEthernet5/2 is down, line protocol is down (faulty)

Hardware is C6k 1000Mb 802.3, address is 0011.9201.d83d (bia 0011.9201.d83d)

Description:

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

Auto-duplex, Auto-speed, media type is SX

Media-type configured as RJ45 connector

input flow-control is off, output flow-control is off

My next step would be to open a TAC case.

I already did that, they didn't give a clear answer yet, and sent the case to the Experts. :-(

Thanks

Judith
