i know one can set a schedule and auto backup/restore configuration on a IOS router - with a KRON command.

how can i do the same on an ASA (auto backup / restore on a set schedule)? KRON command is not available on my ASA5510 or ASA5520

A way to do this is to write a script using a language such as expect or perl to automatically log in to the ASA device and copy the config to a tftp server.

You can then schedule the script to run using cron on linux or the windows equivalent (sorry not a windows person !).

See this thread for details which should hopefully get you started -
