Help with configuring E1 card on 2811 router

Hello,

I have been at this for about a couple of days now but not making much progress.

I have a 2811 base router, upgraded the IOS to 12.4(24)T, I have a HWIC-2CE1T1-PRI card installed where the E1 line is terminated on the first port.

I want to configure the router to receive calls from the E1 line and forward them to a SIP server, the router then acting as a SIP gateway.

This is my first time of trying this type of setup config and hence would appreciate any pointer (specifics) that may be of help.

Please note that no Call Manager software is installed, and the router also came with a base IOS, which has been upgraded to the advanced ipservices IOS.

Regards,

Femi

The HWIC-2CE1T1-PRI is not voice capable. It is designed for ISDN data calls, generally for terminating PPP dial applications.

For voice operations, you will need a VWIC-2MFT-E1 or VWIC2-2MFT-E1T1.

I also noticed that when i try to configure the dial peer, i am unable to configure the port command that points to the serial interface of the card. The 'port' command simply was not found on the router?! :-(

Wow, that was a heavy blow...3 months waiting for these cards, they come and they are the wrong ones...great!!!

thanks anyway!

Here's the marketing note -

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps2797/product_data_sheet0900aecd80710c88.html

You will see it says 'PRI for Data'

just to add to the confusion, it also says support for the PVDM2-Digital Modem modules for modem dial access, but this still means the card is not voice as in packetised voice capable. Were you advised to purchase these particular cards ? You should be able to swap them over since they are clearly unsuitable for your application.

Hi,

I am consulting for a company that is to use this card and they know nothing about Cisco products. The system was advised by some other consultant. We hope to be able to swap the cards though, but that sounds to me like another 3 months on queue.

Thanks again.
