Accessing Unity Connection Voicemail externally

Hey,

It's straight forward in Unity Express, but I can't seem to figure out how it's done in Unity Connection.

I want to give users a DDI so they can dial into their voicemail externally. One option is for them to ring their extension, let it ring out to voicemail and break in that way but it's not ideal.

In unity express, I just translated a DDI to the Unity Express Call-in number and it prompts the caller for their extension number and pin, and that's them into their voicemail.

However in Unity Connection, if I do teh same thing, Unity transfers the call to reception I assume because it doens't recognise teh CLID as a subscriber.

I'm new to Unity Connection so any help greatly apprecaited, maybe I'm just missing something really simple.

Thanks in advance,

Neil

Hi Neil,

Sounds like what you are trying to accomplish is alternate extensions for users.

Alternate Extensions

Adding Alternate Devices

As for why your calls are going to the Operator... sounds like you may have a call routing rule setup or some sort of call handler taking the calls.

Call Management Overview

Hope that helps,

Brad

I like your style - worked like a charm. I configured my mobile as an alternate number and I can access no problem.

I does beg the question how you would access them from a pubic phone however but I'm happy with this solution for the moment,

Thanks,

Neil

If they have a # to call into which is something like call-forward-all, obviously UC won't be able to have knowledge of every single external number and be able to dump them into a specific user mailbox, so as long as you at least reach the default opening greeting, or maybe a configured call handler (info in the call management link I sent you), they can enter their extension, then their password and it'll drop them into their voice mail.

An easy way that I can think of is to create a CTI route point that accepts all external calls or dummy device that is set for CFA to voice mail. Then create a routing rule to match the extension of the dummy device and act accordingly by sending it to a call handler which sends everyone directly to sign-in.

Just some ideas..

Brad
