HI,

I have a 2501 router running with c2500-is-l_120-4.bin IOS.And i am running dhcp relay agent so that my local locations will get ip address from central DHCP server.Recently we have changed the DHCP server so it is required to change the helper-address in router also. After we done the changes we found the client are not able to get the ip address from DHCP server.

We found in Central router the DHCP packets are coming as a source ip address 0.0.0.0 instaed of unicast(i.e router interface ip where the helper-address command was there).

After enabling the ip bootp server the problem is resolved.

BUt this was disabled previously.

how can we coorealte this helper -address to bootp server.

Hello Elango,

you have found a workaround by yourself.

Just for curiosity what if you disable ip bootp server now?

Does ip helper address still work or not ?

Edit:

do it in a maintanance window

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi,

If i disable the bootp server again the udp forwarder is showing as a source ip address as 0.0.0.0 only

bootp server service is required for dhcp relay because dhcp is bootp with extra features. I had same issue a few yrs back.
