Display of Routes with 'show ip route'

Is there any rhyme or reason to how routes are listed with a simple 'show ip route'?

I notice on the 2800 series routers, they appear random. On the 6500, they are clumped together with similar IPs, but not sorted. And on the 7600, they are actually sorted..

Someone asked me this today, and I realize I have never thought about it.

Hello Jeffrey,

I tried to look for a command that could change the aspect and order of routes in an IP routing table but I couldn't find one.

However, I remember that there are some parameters that decide the aspect of sh ip route for example regarding showing mask or prefix-length for example.

So a possible explanation is that different platforms and IOS releases can have different default values for parameters that decide sh ip route output.

Hope to help
