connectivity issue between BRI S/T and a customer BRI device

Unanswered Question

Hi,

I have a 2821 router with VIC2-BRI-NT/TE and I am connecting this to a U-port on Telos (BRI broadcast device) via a RJ11 cable. But Layer 1 Status is

DEACTIVATED. I think the issue might be related BRI S/T port of Cisco2811.

I am just wondering for this connection, does an external BRI NT1 is required for Cisco BRI port as VIC2-BRI-NT/TE is S/T port only instead of U-port? And which Voice Module has BRI-U port for this connection?

Very appreciated your help.

Jack

I have this problem too.

BRI voice cards only support the 4 wire S/T interface, not the 2 wire U interface. Normally the BRI voice card would be connected to a NT1 device.

Cisco does not manufacturer ISDN BRI voice cards with U interfaces.

If you want to connect the BRI cards to other devices, you need to configure one side as Network and the other side as User and also provide line power. Refer here for more details on ISDN BRI network side operation -
