fail over ASA

Ihave two ASA 5520, I am new to ASA as a fail over, I would like to know how I can view if the two firewalls states and which firewall is active

"sh mode" shows you which mode the firewall is running in.

To switch between firewalls either

1) on the current standby firewall use the command - "failover active"

OR

2) on the current active firewall use the command - "no failover active"

Thanks a lot, for some reason I was not able to failover, when I went to the data center I saw that one of the firewall was off.
