Simple LAN Design Question

I have three 2950's that I will deploy as access switches. All access ports wil be VLAN 22.

I am going to uplink each of them individually (not daisy chained) to a 3550.

So this is what I plan to do:

1) Put management VLAN of the 2950s in VLAN22

2) Set all ports on 2950s to switchport access vlan 22

3) On the 3550, there should be no need to trunk since I just have straight VLAN 22. I was going to simply set these three uplink ports to Switchport Access VLAN 22 as well.

How does that sound?

Hello James,

I would use a different Vlan for management for different reasons including avoiding access to switch for end users and some protection from possible issues in client vlan like high level of broadcast traffic and so on.

The management vlan should be also different from vlan1.

of course in this case uplinks would become layer 2 trunks carrying vlan 22, management vlan X on both sides.

I recommend to use switcport trunk allowed vlan 22,X for better control.

What specific model of the 2950 do you have?

How do you expect to "daisy chain" them? Are you going to use GigaStacking GBIC? Will you be using Switch Clustering?
