What is the best way to baseline a network prior to deploying WAAS?

Hi - I'm looking to baseline a network for a period of a month prior to deploying a WAAS solution. There are 2 data centres and approximately 100 edge sites. My client has identified 4 points where they want probes installed to achieve this baselining and they're looking for top talkers, top 10 apps, top 10 links, top 100 websites etc.

Has anyone had to do this kind of thing before and if so, what sort of tools did you use? I've looked at the Fluke Networks Application Performance Appliance but that represents quite an investment just to baseline the network.

Any advice would be appreciated
