Impact of packet capture on ASA or FWSM performance

This is where I'm captureing to a PCAP file. Does this have the same aura about it as most IOS debugs ?

What amount of impact is pkt capture likely to have on performance?

Usually there is no impact on the performance of the box due to enabling packet capture. The default buffer is 512K after it gets full no new packets will be collected until a "clear cap "

On the FWSM platform there are some known problem with captures.

This is a great tool to troubleshoot connectivity problems and other issues with connections going through and to the firewall.
