Seek clarification on hardware supported in 6.0.4

The release notes from yesterday's release seem to appear in contradiction within itself. Maybe I am not reading this appropriately.

In the upgrade section I see,

"Upgrade to 6.0.4

The 6.0.3 release, distributed in April 2009, was the last software release for the CS-MARS 100, 100e, 200, GC, and GCm appliances. Therefore, you cannot apply the 6.0.4 release to these appliance models. For a full list of supported appliance models, see Supported Hardware."

In the "Supported Hardware" section I see both the 100 and the 100e. How is it both not supported and supported?

"Release 6.0.4 supports the following Cisco Security MARS Appliance models:

Local Controller Appliances: 2nd Generation

•Cisco Security MARS 25R (CS-MARS-25R-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 25 (CS-MARS-25-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 55 (CS-MARS-55-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 110R (CS-MARS-110R-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 110 (CS-MARS-110-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 210 (CS-MARS-210-K9)

Local Controller Appliances: 1st Generation

•Cisco Security MARS 20R (CS-MARS-20R-K9) as a MARS 20

•Cisco Security MARS 20 (CS-MARS-20-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 50 (CS-MARS-50-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 100e (CS-MARS-100E-K9) as a MARS 100

•Cisco Security MARS 100 (CS-MARS-100-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS 200 (CS-MARS-200-K9)

Global Controller Appliances: 2nd Generation

•Cisco Security MARS GC2R (CS-MARS-GC2R-K9)

•Cisco Security MARS GC2 (CS-MARS-GC2-K9)

Global Controller Appliances: 1st Generation

•Cisco Security MARS GCm (CS-MARS-GCM-K9) as a MARS GC

•Cisco Security MARS GC (CS-MARS-GC-K9)"

And what exactly does "Cisco Security MARS 100e (CS-MARS-100E-K9) as a MARS 100" (100e as a 100) mean? Is there some tweak to trick a 100e to think it is a 100?

Thanks for the clarification.

Hi!

Cisco has changed their mind regard old MARS model. Right now "Release notes" doesn't contain the above mentioned phrase. Please, re-get it from cisco.com.

With best regards.

Hi

I assume that the MARS GEN1 (20,50,100, GC and GCm ) hardware sales been stopped by Cisco. However the customer can still install the MARS 6.0.4 on these platform.

We have a MARS 100e, and had issues migrating to 6.x and the upgrades to get to 6.0.3. Upgrading to 6.0.4 with the GUI now also fails. Here is what is happening trying to upgrade from 6.0.3 to 6.0.4. any ideas? tia

[pnadmin]$ pnupgrade cdrom://csmars-6.0.4.3229.zip

CSMARS Upgrade...........[7012]

Loading..................[csmars-6.0.4.3229.zip]

Protocol.............[cdrom]

Path.................[csmars-6.0.4.3229.zip]

Upgrade..................[MARS]

From.................[6.0.3.3188.31]

To...................[6.0.4.3229.33]

[Error][check_dependency/541]: minimal allowed version(6.0.3.3188.32) > current version(6.0.3.3188.31).

I've just upgraded our cs-mars-50 to 6.0.4 from 6.0.3:

[pnadmin]$ model

CS-MARS-50

[pnadmin]$ version

6.0.4 (3229) 33

[pnadmin]$

I added the upgraded to the package repository via the web interface.

Admin=>System Maint=>Upgrade=>Local packages

I uploaded the 6.0.4.zip file (don't unzip it) and then did the upgrade. I could have used the MARS GUI to download the package, however when I downloaded it on Fri, Cisco didn't list it as available.

I'd call TAC and let them sort it out. They may need to do some system level command line work.
