PVC2300 Lens Upgrades

I have a PVC2300 mounted on the second floor of a building at a difficult to reach site.  The camera is reliant upon PoE for power, as there are no other power options in the area. I am trying to resolve an issue with excessive sunlight that distorts the image at specific times of day and am wondering if a lens upgrade might be able to help mitigate some of the image distortion we are seeing under bright sunlight conditions.  Spefically, I am considering an auto iris lens.  I can't find an authoritative answer, but was wondering if such a lens would be able to be powered directly from the camera or whether I would need to provide a secondary power source.

Below is a list of lenses that are compatible with the PVC2300 and should not require an additional power source.

hi Oldwhatshisname,

This is going to sound like a RFC, but I have a couple of PVC2300's with an off the shelf auto Iris lens plugged into one of my PVC2300's.

I plug a DC cable from the 'off the shelf' lens into the auto iris power socket on the side of the camera.  The four pin socket can be seen in the photo below.

The auto Iris lens MAY mitigate some of the affects of sunlight in the afternoon.  But mitigate is a very good choice of words that you used.  The auto Iris control on the lens is powered and controlled from my PVC2300 camera.

External enclosures that can be used with the PVC2300,  the Pelco EH4700 series,   have a option for sunshade to mitigate some the the affects of sunlight.  If the camera is pointed directly at the sun, the camera will be blinded, even with a auto iris lens, but the affects may be mitigated.

I hope it answered your question.

One thing you might want to consider if you're going to use any other lens than waht is offerred here is that you need a DC-iris lens and NOT a video-iris lens.
