Policy-map bandwidth allocation.

Hi,

In the following configuraion of Policy-map what is the result of each class-map getting the bandwidth.

Policy map applied on T1 serial link (1540 kbps )

Policy-map WAN

class WEB

bandwidth percent 20

class SAP_Traffic

bandwidth percent 10

class class-default

fair-queue

As T1 configured bandwidth is 1540 kbps

CASE-1 :

20 % of T1 = 308 kbps for WEB class

10 % of T1 = 154 kbps for SAP_Traffic class.

And remaining will be used by default class.

Is my understand correct ?

OR

CASE-2 :

It is like this, after allocation of WEB bandwidth ( 308 kbps ) what remain is

1540 kbps - 308 kbps = 1232 kbps.

Now when allocating bandwidth for SAP_Traffic 10 % of the remaining will be allocated = 10 % of 1232 kbps = 123.2 kbps.

Which case is correct?

Please share the experience.

Any link on cisco.com

Thanks in advance.

Subodh,

It should be case 1. The bandwidth percent command is to reserve a percentage of the available bandwidth during congestion only. If the line isn't congested, then it would use up as much as it needed.
