ACE Module/Cisco ACE 4710

We are in the process of acquiring a load balancer for the following applications.

1. Oracle E Business Suite 11i

2. Oracle Application Server (SSO)

What are the components/license and I/O modules required for about 500 users on http and https access.

Any recommendation on whether to use module on 6509 or standalone?

You can purchase an ACE bundle which includes everything you need. Check the bottom of the datasheet.

1G 2 Pack Bundle: Includes two units each of ACE 4710 Hardware, 1 Gbps Throughput, 1000 SSL TPS, 100 Mbps Compression, 5 Virtual Devices, 50 Application Acceleration Connection License, Embedded Device Manager

You can apply BW, virtual contexts, etc to the bundle if you need them.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Collin for the info.

Do you have any similar information regarding the ACE module for Cisco Catalyst 6509E.

Any recommendation as to which would be a better option, Cisco ACE 4710 or the ACE module on Cisco 6509E?

The ACE module also has a bundle option if you're buying the 6500 chassis with it. Here's the datasheet on the module-

Here's the rub, the appliance is significantly cheaper because of the limit on bandwidth. With the appliance you can get 1GB, 2GB or 4GB. The 6500 has 4GB, 8GB or 16GB depending on the platform and license. The 6500 is for larger deployments. I would lean towards the appliance unless you know you'll be over 4GB. Also the appliance has a really nice GUI (and I hate GUIs).

That was quick. thanks again.

A few more queries. I am not sure how much bandwidth will be in use. We already have two 6509E chassis with free slots. We have around 500 users on Oracle E Business suite, 500 for Single sign On for Oracle Appllication, 500 using OWA exchange mail, 200 users on Documentum Application. What sort of Bandwidth do you recommend we go in for? Just to make the right choice, so that we dont end up in a bottle neck at some stage.

You basically have two options; do some research and find out what a typical flow is for each app or monitor (SNMP) and see how much bandwidth is being used. This work up front will save your butt in the future.
