Are there any licensing issues when upgrading from CUCM 6.0 to 7.0?
When we upgraded from 5.1 to 6.0 we were unable to activate the partition as there was a license issue that had to be resolved.
Thanks Kim

Hi Kim,
That is correct. The DLU's and Node Licences will be okay but you will need to purchase the Software Feature License for CUCM 7.x
Here is a clip that speaks to this issue;
Software Feature License
When you upgrade from an earlier release of Cisco Unified Communications Manager to Release 7.0(2), you must download and install a software feature license to activate the new features.

Hi Kim,
As far as Licensing goes, yes, any upgrade to a new "train" requires the Software Feature License. So for example;
CUCM 6.0(x) to 6.1(x) = No
CUCM 6.(x) to 7.0(x) = Yes
Hope this helps!

Hi Rob,
thanks for responding.
Our 6.0 license will not cover 7.0 in that case, is this right?

So how can this be done safely?
If I roll into a 7.X version on my active partition, and upload the 7.0 license file, will I still be able to revert back to my inactive 6.x partition if needed?

Hi Robert,
Yes, this is one of the great features with the "partition-style" builds :) They give you the flexibility to roll back if necessary. You would need to go through the dB replication steps if a rollback to a lower version is done.
Cheers!

Rob,
Appreciate the response, but to clarify, if I roll back from 7 to 6, will I need to re-upload the 6 license file?

Hi Robert,
No, the Licensing portion would remain intact within the 6.x build :)
Cheers!
