LMS 2.5 VLAN Config archive fails

Hello,

we use still LMS 2.5, RME 4.0.

The RME Config Archive Job shows for all VLANs the error: Couldnot create file in /tftpboot directory.Couldnot create file in /tftpboot directory. OR Couldnot change the file permissions for the file - /tftpboot.Unable to create a socket to /172.x.x.x

This is a new error and I have no idea what has changed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wolfgang

Make sure /tftpboot exists, and has 1777 permissions. This is, of course, the default. If you are using a different tftpboot directory (as specified in /etc/inetd.conf), then make sure that directory exists, and has 1777 permissions. Make sure the devices in question can reach the LMS server via TFTP. This means that udp/69 and all ephemeral UDP ports should be open between device and server.

On what platform is LMS running? Is this Solaris?

Yes, on Solaris 9

Make sure /tftpboot exists, and has 1777 permissions. This is, of course, the default. If you are using a different tftpboot directory (as specified in /etc/inetd.conf), then make sure that directory exists, and has 1777 permissions. Make sure the devices in question can reach the LMS server via TFTP. This means that udp/69 and all ephemeral UDP ports should be open between device and server.

Something else you'll want to check relating to the socket error is that the LMS server can connect to the device in question using either telnet or SSH. This is used to determine the proper address for RME to use when specifying an address to which the config will be copied. In an upcoming version of RME, this will be done using UDP.

Also, I should offer my obligatory suggestion to upgrade to LMS 2.6 SP1 as 2.5 is end of life. The upgrade is free as all components can be downloaded from Cisco.com. First, go to:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/lms25

This will get you to LMS 2.5.1. Then, for 2.6, go to:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/lms26

Then download Common Services 3.0.6 from:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cd-one-3des

Finally, go to Common Services > Software Center > Software Update, and get the updates for RME, Campus Manager, and DFM.

Now it works. The complete /tftpboot had been deleted by our UNIX admins for security reasons and has been restored.

Thanks for your update links too.
