2950T-24: archive download-sw Unrecognized command

Level 1

When I log into my Catalyst 2950T-24 switch and issue this command:

archive ?

I get back this result:

tar List or extract files in a tar image

It does not show download-sw as an option.

When I do this:

archive download-sw ?

I get this response:

% Unrecognized command

I have IOS software version 12.1(22)EA4

I tried changing to all kinds of different user modes but that did not help.

Any ideas what went wrong?

Thanks,

Neil

Neil,

What are you trying to accomplish? If you want to download and extract a tar archive, you can do it this way:

archive tar /xtract tftp://1.2.3.4/filename.tar flash:

Best regards,

Peter

I am trying to upgrade to the latest firmware. I downloaded the bin file and was trying to follow the instructions. I will download the tar file and try that.

Thanks,

Neil

It's easy with the bin.

Get a tftp server, i recommend tftpd (first hit in google)

Then on switch type:

copy tftp: flash:

And follow the questions asked.

HTH

That is good. I will try the copy command. After I copy it to the flash, how do I tell the switch to use it?

Also, what is the difference between the crypto and non-crypto versions?

I will try that. Thanks!
