Can you guys tell me if it's possible to take the CCDA examination with just a CCNA in the bag? I have heard conflicting information as a friend of mine has told me you need one of the CCNP examinations as well? Can anyone clear this up for me please, I really do need a definate answer;)

Many thanks,

This is what the Cisco site says:

CCNA level knowledge and BCMSN level knowledge is needed to prepare for the CCDA certification exam.

Though someone else might be able to give you specific information about if you are required to have passed the BCMSN test...Ciscos site implies it, but doesn't say it.

You can take the exam with no official pre-requesite, but Cisco recommends CCNA/CCNP level knowledge. I literally failed it less than an hour ago and i have no past Cisco accreditations, although enough hands on experience, and would only say that its harder than its seems.

Hope this helps

Bad luck John;( You will take it down on the next attempt;) Was it very difficult? There seems to be a lot of methodology in there and a lot of terminology in there as well. Its why i decided to do CCDA before CCNP. I really do believe CCDA is probably the best warm up for CCNP as it covers a broad range of specialisations. I am gonna take CCNA Voice after this just to top things up before CCNP;)

Cheers, it werent tough like a command line exam, it was more how they worded the questions, and alot of the time more than one answer was correct, so i guess i made soem bad decisions. Will resit on the 1st and nail it, but at least i now know the content, and where to concentrate on.

Goodluck in your little list of exams, this just clarified how much harder cisco exams are than microsoft...

John is right there are no prereq's but a CCNA level knowledge is very helpful plus if you've taken the CCNA test you already know what type of exam to expect(minus the router/switch simulators). I just passed it after having my CCNA for about a month. Not to hard but definitely use the study books from Cisco Press. Good Luck Guys!

temujin1499 .... how much time did you put in studying for the CCDA ? I just passed my CCNA a few months back and am thinking of giving the CCDA a try.

I spent about a solid month of studying with the cisco press book and recommend links from the book. Also Boson pratice exams were very helpful.
