Bandwidth command in ME 6524

I wonder why I can not use "bandwidth" command for configuring CBWFQ in ME 6524. The command is available to use, but when I apply the service policy to the interface, input and output, 6524 gave the following error message:

PE1(config-if)#service-policy input PE-INGRESS-FROM-CE

QoS-ERROR: Addition/Modification made to policymap PE-INGRESS-FROM-CE and class Control-From-Customer is not valid, command is rejected

The software version is as follows:

Hello Even,

CBWFQ applied inbound is something I never used.

However, there can be some specific requirements of this platform.

Unfortunately, looking for ME 6500 configuration guide points to the configuration guide for 12.2SX for normal C6500 devices.

Looking at the datasheet it lists other queueing mechanisms different for uplink and downlink ports

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps6568/ps6845/ps6846/product_data_sheet0900aecd8040657e.html

Priority Queue

Shaped Round Robin (SRR)

Deficit Weighted Round Robin (DWRR)

Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED)

these are switch oriented queueing

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for your response.

I actually posted the wrong log. The output when using bandwidth command is as follows:

PE1(config-if)#service-policy output PE-EGRESS-TO-CE

bandwidth command is not supported for this interface

PE1(config-pmap)#do sh policy-map PE-EGRESS-TO-CE

Policy Map PE-EGRESS-TO-CE

Class Control-To-Customer

bandwidth 64 (kbps)

----------------------

The previous error message is for configuring traffic policing inbound on ME6524, which couldn't be done also.

Anyway, I think what you sad is right. Most QoS toolsets in ME6524 are switch oriented. But it makes me wonder on something else. If I provide MPLS service using this ME6524, how can I limit rate to my customer? I mean if the customer only need 2Mbps, then how do I limit the rate based on their requirement? Because as I said earlier, ME6524 also can not use traffic policing inbound, it can only police outbound. Can you enlighten me?

The message posted above is not a policing error but a bandwidth guaranteed configuration error. This is not supported by the regular line cards in the 6500 switch due to the PFC QoS limitation.

You can however police inbound and outbound.

ME 6500 relies on the PFC QoS which does not support bandwidth reservation nor shaping.

The command is there as the code is shared by the regular 6500 which supports both features mentioned while using the SIP/SPA combination or FlexWAN.

Hello Edison,

thanks for your added info

You are welcome Giuseppe :)

You will get your 10k soon as well..
