DHCP Snooping To Track Down the Switch Port

Hi,

We have a frequent problem where we're often trying to trace back an IP to a specific switchport on one of our 3560 switches.

I seem to recall something about configuring DHCP Snooping to record the switchport attached to an IP address.

Does anyone know how that's done or was I dreaming?

Thanks,

Dave

Check out the following linking regarding to ip dhcp snooping:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3560/software/release/12.2_25_see/configuration/guide/swdhcp82.html

You can use "show ip dhcp snooping binding" to check IP-MAC address binding.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3560/software/release/12.2_25_see/command/reference/cli2.html#wp5096793

In general, you can find the same info by the following steps:

1. on the gateway router, check arp table and find the mac address of related IP address.

2. then you can find the port info by looking for the mac address in mac-address table.
