Please I need some information about E1 line on a cisco router.

1. How does the interface for data look like.

2. Is it same as for voice.

3.Any special configuration on the router to bring the interface up, both for voice and for data.

Hello Kennie,

1. How does the interface for data look like.

a serial interface.

if controller e1 0/1/0 is configured for unframed

controller e1

channel-group 0 unframed

a serial interface is created se0/1/0:0

if you define timeslots

controller e1

channel-group 1 timeslots 1-15

channel-group 2 timeslots 16-30

two different serial interfaces are created

ser0/1/0:1

ser0/1/0:2

2) in voice the D channel is

ser0/1/0:15 so it is different and you see the single B channels in sh ip int brief

unless you use the more modern ds0-group command to create voice ports that are groups of B channels

T1 has D channel on 23th channel

3)

controller e1 0/1/0

no shut

if you are in a lab one side has to provide the clock to the other with

clock source internal

for voice additional commands may be needed depending on the scenario

Hope to help

Giuseppe
