I need to extend a vlan on a core switch to another site. The 6500 connects to 3800 router which has p2p connect into another 3800 router - i'm struggling with what options are avialable...

you can consider L2TPv3 vlan based if the link is a WAN link

you can have L3 routed subinterfaces and subinterfaces that are used for L2 transport.
Clearly the performance limitations are those of the two C3800.
