QoS on 6509 switch?

Hi all,

Quick question - how cpu or resource intensive is turning QoS on a Cisco 6509 switch? This is our core switch and its for some ip phones that we are piloting only for the LAN site. The voice traffic is not going on the WAN, just LAN.

FYI - I'm planing in using this command

mls qos map cos-dscp 0 8 16 26 32 46 46 56

Thank you in advance.

Cheers!!!

It won't affect CPU at all as it runs completely in hardware.

It's good idea to modify the default QoS mappings per the command you've posted.

Also, make sure to enable trust on the switchports facing the phones and inter-switch links.

HTH,

PS: The command you posted is modifying COS 6 to DSCP 46, I would't recommend that.
