MLPPP for 2xOC-3 PoS between 7206 routers: ¿is it recommended?

Hello everybody:

¿Is it common practice to bundle OC3 POS interfaces in a single MLPPP interface?

The interfaces are currently not bundled, and because of the combination of (MPLS encapsulated) traffic they have to deal with, neither of the two traditional CEF balancing strategies are really helpful. Session-based CEF switching does not lead to a balanced use of the interface (furthermore, one of them is reaching 85% of its capacity), and per-packet CEF switching generates problems to some TCP-based sessions (end to end throughput worsens).

I think that MLPPP would let me solve the balancing problem at layer 2 and still keep sequenciality of end to end packet delivery.

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Rogelio

Hello Rogelio,

>> Is it common practice to bundle OC3 POS interfaces in a single MLPPP interface?

No, it is not recommended MLPPP cannot scale to two OC-3 links not even on C7206.

You can try to use host static routes if this is not MPLS VPN traffic.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
