The rings and background images do not show up on my IP Phones (7970,7921,7961)

I have tried and tried to follow previous instructions on the website but have had no such luck. I am still unable to get the rings and background images to display on my phones menu. I have performed a dir command and I see the images in the flash as well as the rings. However, they still do not show up on the phones. Any help would be great. I have attached my dir flash

Hi Luke,

Can you capture the output of "debug tftp event" and "debug tftp packet" when you try to invoke either the ringer or the background image feature on the UC 500? Also, can you forward us a copy of the running configuration?

Maybe I am missing something again. How do you add those commands. I have tried to enter them as you have listed however I get the following errors. I have even tried to type enable prior.

You don't have the required files. These are bundled in the Software Pack, can you copy them to the flash?You can download the software pack from the page below - https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9829

Well i am also having the same problem regarding background customization. In my case ip phone 7975g is not downloading the image from cme 8.6. In the menu there are 3 options (1. defaulf and 2 and 3 added by me). In the flash:Desktops/320x216x16 all the files are there but its not downloading from cme.Here are the configurations

Am I able to use the CLI to do that? When I download UC520-7.0.3.zip and extract the files from the download where do I extract the files to? my desktop? Then do I use the copy tftp-server command? Can you provide a sample of how it would look.

You can extract the CME-Support-Files-7.0.3.tar to your desktop. Make sure that you are running a tftp server on your desktop. You can then execute the following CLI (in the exec mode):

archive tar /xtract tftp://192.168.10.11/CME-Support-Files-7.0.3.tar flash:

  where, 192.168.10.11 is the IP address of the tftp-server (your PC if you have tftp-server installed on your PC).

The above will install all the required background image and ringer files in the flash.

Here is a brief way to do it:

Local Upload:

Download a TFTP program such as http://support.3com.com/software/3cdv2r10.zip

  1. Configure the TFTP section to point to the folder that has the files you want to have accessible to the system
  2. Upload the fiiles to the UC-500
  3. Check your TFTP-SERVER by doing the following command on the CLI "ROUTER# sh run | s tftp-serv" (Without the "") take note of what is there as they may need to be deleted and replaced with the correct ones.


    EXAMPLE OF WHAT IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE:

  4. To modify the the TFTP-SERVER on teh command line do the following commands "ROUTER# conf t" (Without the ""), you can copy and past the above assuming that you used CCA version 2.01 to provision the system, if not make sure that the file path matches exactly where the file is located otherwise it will bomb out on you and it wont work.

If it is from a remote location, you dont have many options unless you can use the Cisco VPN client and can VPN into the system, this way you act as though you are there locally infront of the system.

This should be fairly straight forward, make sure you use the files that are in the 7.0.3 or 7.1.1 file packs, they are the latest and are in a structured file format, some people just slap them directly on teh flash drive, but i can tell you that this is a BAD way to do it, its also lazy and it creates more problems then it is worth it.

I did as I was instructed and I still am unable to see the rings and background images. "Rings Unavailable" or "Selections Unavailable". However I did notice in my attached running config that the files are now there in the flash.
