If I understood the presentation, OfficeExtend is designed for remote or home office workers. The theory is to take a primed LWAP home and connect it to your home xDSL and your "office" LAN/SSID will be presented via wireless.

Cisco OfficeExtend

Hope this helps.

but I am assuming it means you have an existing vpn connection back to your home office. Why do they always depict a linksys? Can linksys create a vpn tunnel?

The concept requires the 5508 with the approriate license.

Basically, the OEAP will create a secure DTLS tunnel to your controller (you'd have to have the controller accessible via the internet, but I believe there is a NAT mechanism in placce for this).

This allows you to not actually require a VPN/WAN link for this deployment.

Furthermore, I believe you can even configure a local ssid on the AP for "home" use...

If you have the WLC 5508 with OfficeExtend license and the APs you're using is either the 1130 or 1140, then the LAP will create the VPN tunnel from the home to the WLC.

Forgive me still confused. If you prime the device before taking it home isn't it going to think the controller is a private address? How does learn some public address that represents the controller on the other side?

never mind got it requires that you specify a public address in the high availability tab and then create a rule through your firewall if you have one to allow those ports.

Thx everyone
