Can anyone recommend any good tools or software for producing reports on layer 2 traffic within the LAN. We use Fluke Netflow Tracker but this only shows layer 3 & 4 traffic flows.
Thanks

Hello Darren,
if the number of switch ports is not very high you can get nice graphs of port usage with MRTG.
see
You can customize it to produce reports.
It is freware.
other possible products are CiscoWorks that should have module for traffic monitoring.
Hope to help

Wildpackets Omnipeek may be of help, It's Layer 2 data collection is good and really meant for wireless but it handles NIC IF's and it categorizes all traffic on your ethernet network, of course depending on how you tie in. It reports to html, xml, tab delimeted, csv as of V3.1.1
This version breaks down layer 2 over my small home network to:
ARP Req's, UDP, RIP Reply, igmp, dhcp, NB name svc.,SMB Xactions, NW Nbios Mailslot, NetBios, NB DG datagram, LSAP, IPX, IP, EType2, BootP, ARP, 802.3
This with an IP on the wrong network.
I have some Cisco equipment hanging around and can check for cdp traffic but I'm sure you'll find all you need in the trialware.
The trialware for evaluation is at:
