2960 Error Message " !!! WARNING: The switch is not usable !!! "

When i powered the switch this is the error message it was displaying " !!! WARNING: The switch is not usable !!! " and it erased the complete config. It was on the network and was working alright until we took off today.

Any help with this will be good.

Personally, I have never ecountered a similar message. However, I can confirm that it is present in the IOS image for 2960. I suspect that it is displayed when one or more POST tests fail.

Does it appear every time you boot the switch? If yes, watch closely for the results of the POST tests. Also you can enter the command "show post" in the CLI to see the results after the switch has booted. If there are some POST failures indicated, the switch needs to be replaced.

Contact Cisco TAC and have the appliance replaced.
