BGP and Weight

Hi,

I have a question about BGP and Weight

If we have two uplinks and learn the below routes (uplink1 has weight 100 and uplink2 has weight 50)

192.168.0.0/20 uplink1 weight 100

192.168.1.0/24 uplink2 weight 50

which uplink will be best for destination 192.168.1.10? I know the higher weight is preferred but how bout smaller subnet in this scenario?

Thanks,

Mehrdad

Uplink2 will be preferred for destination 192.168.1.10 - it has the longest mask.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

any solution to force traffic to go uplink1? it means WEIGHT has higher preferences than longest mask

Choices are:

1) Have Link1 send you a /24

2) Have Link2 send you a /20 instead of /24

3) Filter routes from Link2

In order to perform BGP traffic engineering, routes must be the same and a /24 via one link vs a /20 via another link aren't the same.
