3750 blocking the RARP requests?

Hi Friends,

I've two Sun blades both on different network, the GATEWAY is Cisco 3750. When I try to do a network install (aka Jumpstart), it fails.

Now i suspect, RARP request sent to my Sun server (from sun client) is'nt getting a response from server. In btw these machines, the Cisco 3750 is either blocking it, or respondng with its own IP.

If anyone can throw some light, that would be great!

Regards,

Sylvester

Rarp is a layer2 protocol and can not be routed. The solution to this is to have the switch act as a RARP server:

ip rarp-server ip-address

I'm assuming that you are using the old style of Sun jumpstart (Sun supports DHCP and BOOTP now). If so, it will most likely send its TFTP request to the device that responded to the RARP request.

If this is the case you would need to forward TFTP to the server with the ip helper-address command.
