Hi,
We had a requirement to trace some packet going in and out of the CAT 6500 and 7206 VXR router
based on the source and destination or based on the protocol SIP and h323
is it recomded to use the commands like debug ip tcp packet address XXX
since our traffic on the CAT and Routers are about 300 meg
kindly suggest us how we can trace the packet

Will an access list work?

You have multiple ways to do that on 6500.
- access-list with log as highlighted above
- Mini protocol analyser if you run 12.2(33)SXI . see :http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/mpa.html
- Use Span , RSPAN : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/span.html
- Use VACL capture : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/vacl.html
HOpe this helps,
Roland
