Bonjour,
Would anyone know why the SHDSL technology doesn't need a BRAS function in the WAN.
Is it only because the BRAS is generally used as an ATM statistical multiplexer, and the SHDSL has a guarantee bandwidth?
Thanks for an opinion.
Best regards,
Michelot

No thar is not the reason.
BRAS is just a marketing term, not a precise technical one. You will find thta different people call the same thing in different way.
For SHDSL you need some device in the CO, no matter how you call it, it has to be there.

Hi Paolo,

OK, I understand. It is true I didn't see any recommandation in ITU-T that introduced BRAS or BAS with the SHDSL.
The word is just to mention a router, perhaps the first router after the CE or CPE.

Generally, BRAS (BRoadband Access Server) is where PPP is terminated.
But, you can have no PPP, and still use a BRAS sometime !
